Archive for February 2026Road Trip? Check! (Trip Inspection)Posted February 22, 2026 1:31 AMAfter months of postponing travel far away from home, a lot of us can't wait to hit the road and scream "Road Trip!" again. But how long has it been since the vehicle you're planning on taking has had a thorough inspection? And is it roadworthy for several days on the highway? Time to schedule a professional trip inspection in our service center. When it comes to long trips, before you go, make sure you can stop. We can perform a break inspection. Our technician will visually inspect your brakes for wear and how much life is left in the brake pads and rotors. They'll also check your brake lines and fluids for fitness and fill. If it's going to be a long trip, it's important that your engine stays lubricated. The technician will see when the last time you had an oil change, check the levels and inspect the system for leaks. If you are close to needing an oil change, it's best to have it done before the trip because no one wants to interrupt a vacation with an oil change in a strange place. It's also better for your engine to have fresh, clean oil rather than driving with dirty, worn-out oil. Comfort in any vehicle depends partly on the suspension system. Our technician can examine shocks and struts so you can avoid an uncomfortable and potentially unsafe journey. Oh, and you'll definitely want to make sure your wheels are aligned. A long trip in an out-of-alignment vehicle can be a driving nightmare with potential steering problems and tire damage. A couple of little things some drivers take for granted are the engine air filter and wiper blades. A dirty air filter can cost you money by reducing fuel economy; it adds up on a long trip. And worn-out wiper blades can make visibility while driving in a rainstorm a blinding, unsafe adventure that you never want to experience, especially in unfamiliar territory. If you're in the habit of having your vehicle regularly maintained, many of these items may be in excellent condition. But considering the extra stresses a long road trip places on any vehicle, it's nice to have a set of our trained eyes give your vehicle a closer look. That way you'll be able to gaze YOUR eyes on sights like the Leaning Tower of Niles or the Gopher Hole Museum. Cruz Auto Repair Clean Slate (Protecting Vehicle's Finish)Posted February 15, 2026 1:26 AMWinter is one of the hardest times to keep your vehicle clean. But did you know neglecting to wash your vehicle in winter could cost you a significant amount of money in the long run? Here's why. Many areas deal with snow and ice in the winter, and the salt and sand that are used to keep the road surfaces from being slick are also super corrosive to a vehicle's metal body and undercarriage. That includes all the parts underneath that can be splashed with brine, saltwater and other road debris. Winter is also tough on vehicles where there isn’t snow, sometimes from ocean salt or winter's extra humidity and rain. If you have any breaks in your vehicle's paint, whether it be from a little fender bender or a stone chip, that corrosive winter moisture can get through those cracks and start eating away at the metal underneath. If you can, you should get any dents or damage fixed as soon as possible so your vehicle has a protective layer of paint between road chemicals and the metal. You may want to wait until the warmer weather, but while you're waiting, the damage is getting worse. If you're not sure of a reputable body repair shop, check with the service advisor where you have mechanical work done. They're usually knowledgeable about who is good and not so good. You also may be tempted to skip the car wash during the winter since your vehicle is just going to get dirty fast anyway. You may want to reconsider. Many winter road treatments now use brine that gets in every nook and cranny of your vehicle. It's wise to clean that off regularly during the winter, and many washing facilities include a spray underneath that gets rid of that salt. Your vehicle repair facility may even have its own car wash, a nice bonus when you take your vehicle in for repair or regular maintenance. Cruz Auto Repair See the Light (Bulb Replacement)Posted February 8, 2026 1:29 AMWhen you notice one of your headlights has gone out, it’s important for the safe operation of your vehicle to get it changed and working again. Not only is replacing a headlight important for your ability to see in the dark, but it’s also vital that it be lighting your way and aimed correctly so oncoming drivers aren’t blinded. Changing a headlight used to be something a driver might try to do themselves. But that was back when headlights were standard sizes and fairly easy to access on your vehicle. That has all changed with new technology and designs in today’s vehicles. Most lamps are now LEDs, and there are different sizes, intensities, and shapes in different vehicles. Accessing those bulbs has also grown extremely difficult in some cases, and we recommend you have one of our professional technicians do it for you. It's just as important that your brake lights and side marker lights work, too, as they contribute to the safe operation and visibility of your vehicle. A technician will check to see what is causing a light not to illuminate, which could be a bulb, but also could be a problem with the electrical system in that bulb’s circuit. Having all your lights working is not only a matter of convenience, but a matter of safety too. So don’t be in the dark when you don’t have to be. Let our technicians light up your life a little by making sure all your bulbs are working right.
